According to the “Turkey Youth Study” conducted by the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation based in Germany, only 17.3% of the young people in the country are happy, and 63% of them express a desire to live in another country if given the opportunity.

The Konrad-Adenauer Foundation, based in Germany, has published today the results of the “Turkey Youth Study,” conducted by interviewing 2,140 young individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 from 16 different provinces.
According to the report relayed by ANKA, it is stated that only 17.3% of the participants are happy, while 52.5% consider themselves moderately happy, and 30.1% perceive themselves as unhappy. The findings regarding the participants’ future goals and preferred countries to live in are as follows:
- The most important goal for young people in the future is to have a good life (46.7%).
- 63% of young people would like to live in another country if given the opportunity. The top preference is Germany, followed by the United States. The group of countries includes Europe, Scandinavian countries, and Canada. The most significant reason for the desire to live in another country (47.8%) is the desire to improve living conditions. The second important reason (20.7%) is the perception of having more freedom in those countries.
Regarding their views on the economic situation:
The opinions of young people about the economic situation in Turkey are as follows:
- 73% of them state that Turkey is an underdeveloped or developing country economically.
- 80.6% believe that Turkey’s current economic policies are unsuccessful.
- 86.2% claim that the economic situation in Turkey is poor.
- 88.7% think that income distribution in Turkey is unequal and imbalanced.
- 84.6% believe that there is a high level of unemployment in Turkey.
- 84.4% state that they have limited their consumption and reduced their spending.
Trust in justice is at an all-time low
Regarding the government’s practices, the report states that 70.4% of the participants find the government’s style of governance to be incorrect, and 81.2% find the government’s justice practices to be incorrect. The number of participants who find the government’s economic policies to be incorrect is 83.8%, while 75.7% state that they do not find the government’s education practices to be correct.
66.9% of the participants do not approve of the government’s privatization policies, and 86.3% do not approve of the government’s immigration policies. Other notable preferences are listed as follows:
- 81.1% do not approve of the government allowing property and real estate sales to foreigners.
- 69.6% are not satisfied with the current administration in Turkey, stating that the country is being poorly governed.
- 39.4% do not have a positive outlook on Turkey’s future but remain hopeful, while 27.2% have a pessimistic view of Turkey’s future.
- 98.4% believe that Turkey is facing problems. The most prevalent issues mentioned are current economic conditions, law and justice, unemployment, favoritism, corruption, and bribery.
- 71.3% believe that merit and competence are not taken into account in government hiring processes.
- 85.5% of young people follow the agenda.
- 52% of young people primarily follow the agenda through social media.
- 42% of young people admire and appreciate Mansur Yavaş the most among politicians.
- They want Mansur Yavaş as a presidential candidate in elections.
- 74.3% of young people think that a parliamentary system is more suitable for Turkey.
- 98.3% believe that Turkey faces upcoming problems. The most prominent issue is economic problems, with 89.2% mentioning it.
- The expected problems in Turkey, in order, are economic problems (32.2%), refugee issues (27.3%), and terrorism (15.8%).
