Cast your vote by January 6th to recognize the 2024 ‘Women of the Year,’ celebrating pioneers who inspire with their feminist stance, advocacy, and contributions to equality and solidarity.
As SES Equality and Solidarity Association, we have once again embarked on selecting ‘SES Women of the Year’ for 2024, who inspire women and the women’s movement.
For this year’s fourth annual SES Women of the Year Awards, we have identified 31 candidates – 5 international and 26 from Turkey. We prepared a survey with these candidates for our followers and the public to participate. We will select the ‘Women of the Year’ who have been pioneers in women’s rights advocacy or gender equality efforts in Turkey and worldwide in 2024, who serve as examples through their egalitarian and feminist stance, inspire women with their achievements, or contribute to solidarity by resisting systematic oppression.
At the end of each year, we enter into an exciting rush. We have begun intensive work to select the SES Women of the Year, which we are organizing for the fourth time.
The candidate selection process itself is full of hope. Compiling these bright lights within 2024’s grey landscape gives one the feeling that “not everything is so bad.”
First, we review prominent women and organizations in the Equality Justice Women’s Platform week by week. Since our establishment, we have been telling stories of brave, creative, productive women who challenge the increasingly oppressive, sexist patriarchal order in Turkey and worldwide. As SES Equality, Justice Women’s Platform, we can define what we do as “collecting lights of hope.” We aim to increase hope, resistance, and solidarity by sharing stories of exemplary role models.
To make candidate selection participatory, we closely examined the Women’s movement, LGBTQ movement, Climate and Environmental movement, and Labor movement, and gathered suggestions from women active in these struggles.
We set the following criteria for SES Women of the Year, carefully considering each candidate, and identified 31 individuals and groups – 5 international and 26 from Turkey – as candidates for 2024 SES Women of the Year:
- Advocating for women’s rights, LGBTQ+, human, environmental, and labor rights in Turkey and worldwide
- Defending gender equality
- Being an example with feminist stance in freedom and equality struggle
- Inspiring women with achievements and being role models
- Showing courage and determination in resisting systematic oppression
- Contributing to and showing solidarity with gender equality, climate justice, and human rights struggles
The 2024 SES Women of the Year Candidate List has been prepared and is ready for voting. I recommend reading all these brave, extraordinary, inspiring profiles one by one.

The Women of the Year Award Ceremony will be held at Pera Museum in the third week of January 2025.
