Ekmek ve Gül (Bread and Roses) issued a statement focusing on the discrimination, inequality and male-dominated policies that make life more difficult for women in the earthquake zones. They demand gender-oriented special security measures, the supply of basic needs and hygiene materials, maternity services and shelter opportunities should be increased immediately.

The solidarity news outlet Bread and Roses started a campaign by using the hashtag #DepremdeKadınlar (Women in the Earthquake) expressing that discrimination, inequality and male-dominated policies make the lives of women in the earthquake region more difficult.
The collective demanded an immediate increase in gender-focused special security measures, the supply of basic needs and hygiene items, maternity services and shelter:
They stated:
“Some of us are in the disaster area at the head of the debris, in search and rescue efforts, in aid distribution activities…
Some of us are busily collecting aid in the rest of the country… We put one of our two blankets, sanitary pads, and diaper packages in boxes. “What more can I do?” our hearts flutter.
As Bread and Roses, we are trying to extend the hand of our sisters outside the disaster area to our sisters in the disaster area, and to make the voices of those in the earthquake zone heard in other parts of the country.
Worrying news is coming from the field as we women are putting our lives on the line and weaving this solidarity. Discrimination, inequality and male-dominated policies in the ordinary course of life are collapsing into women’s lives, like the debris in the earthquake zone.”
