Hope, Resistance, Solidarity
Gülseren Onanç, the Founding President of SES Equality and Solidarity Association, made statements about the platform, saying, “For the past five years, we have been following the inspiring stories of women who resist the patriarchal system in Turkey and around the world, women politicians who advocate for equality and peace, women civil society representatives who weave solidarity, and brave LGBTQ+ activists who resist discrimination. With its publications and projects since its establishment, SES Equality and Solidarity Association and its publishing platform, SES Equality, Justice, Women Platform, have carved out a unique place in the women’s movement in Turkey and the world. As SES, we have sought to understand and interpret the world with a new feminist perspective, contributing to the spread of hope and the support of resistance and solidarity. We have strived to make the voices of women in the world heard in our country and the voices of women in our country heard around the world.”
Eda Doğançay, the editor of the platform, summarized the platform’s 5 years as follows: “As SES Equality, Justice, Women Platform, we have persistently advocated for the establishment of gender equality and justice by creating content with a new language that does not fall into the trap of discrimination and supports peace. We have highlighted developments and individuals that promote hope, courage, and a positive outlook towards the future. We have advocated for an inclusive, solution-oriented, and constructive approach to publishing. We closely monitored both local and global women’s agendas, aiming to provide our followers with a holistic understanding by considering the local within the global and the global within the local. We have translated numerous articles and essays from international press and foreign-based magazines into Turkish, closely followed international meetings, and shared our impressions. We will continue working to further develop and expand our gender-focused publishing. Although we still have a long way to go, what we have achieved so far gives us hope.”
