Jill Morris will be the first British woman ambassador to Turkey in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which spans more than 400 years.

Ms Jill Morris CMG has been appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey in succession to Sir Dominick Chilcott KCMG who will be retiring from the Diplomatic Service. Ms Morris will take up her appointment during January 2023.
Jill Morris will be the first British woman ambassador to Turkey in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which spans more than 400 years.
From 2001 to 2005 she was the Second Secretary in Nicosia. During 2005-2006 she moved to Brussels where she was positioned as Desk Officer and External Relations, UK Permanent Representation to the EU, then from 2006-2008 as Brussels, Counsellor, UK Permanent Representation to the EU.
2008-2010 Morris became the FCO’s Head Consular Strategy Department, in 2011 the FCO’s Head of the Counter-Proliferation Department and in 2012-2015 the FCO’s Europe Director.
As of 2016-2022, she has served as the UK Ambassador to Italy and Non-Resident Ambassador to San Marino.
