According to the ‘Youth Perception On Gender Equality’ research, 83 percent of the youth in Turkey think that there is no gender equality in the country, while only 4 percent find the efforts of political parties to advance equality sufficient.

Young people between the ages of 18-35 from 81 provinces of Turkey and 28 countries participated in the ‘Youth Perception On Gender Equality’ research conducted by Evrim Kuran Consulting on behalf of YANINDAYIZ Association.
The research, which was carried out through a web-based survey between February 16 and April 4, 2022 and participated by 12,925 people in total, is of great importance in terms of being the most comprehensive and broadly participated research in this field in Turkey.
According to the research, 87 percent of young people think that men and women are not equal in all areas. This rate is 72 percent for men, 87 percent for women, and 84 percent for other genders.
Some of the prominent findings of the study are as follows:
- 70 percent of young people experience discrimination based on their gender at least once in their lifetime. 82 percent of young women and 40 percent of men face discrimination because of their gender.
- 54 percent of young people can show an adequate reaction when faced with discrimination because of their gender.
- Women experience violence at a rate of 87 percent. This rate, which is 70 percent for men, is 82 percent for other genders.
Psychological violence is the most common form of violence
- 88% of young people are victims of psychological violence, 48% of digital violence, 43% of economic violence, 31% of physical violence, and 22% of sexual violence.
- While 40 percent of young women and 25 percent of men experience dating abuse, this rate rises to 47 percent in other genders. 91 percent of teens see their partners forcing them to have sex as violence. 98 percent of women, 73 percent of men and 89 percent of other genders agree with this statement.
- Jealousy is not perceived as a form of violence. Only 27 percent of young people see being jealous as violence.
- Only 6 percent of young people find the support of men sufficient for women to reach full equality. 10 percent of men and only 4 percent of women find this support sufficient.
- Only 4 percent find the efforts of political parties to advance equality sufficient.
- The research also shows that individuals between the ages of 18-35 do not have enough information about the Istanbul Convention. The rate of those who state that they have knowledge about the convention remains at 48 percent.
